Szeklerland in Transylvania (central part of Romania) is a place of great history and myth, with intriguing villages of ancient origin, hidden deep in sloping valleys and impressive mountains. It is a real paradise to discover all these wonders from horseback.
Our tour host, the local equestrian centre Ivo Riding Ranch, established in 2011 operates with Islandic horses and takes us on horseback to the wonderful world of this region. We discover hidden secrets in the shadows of the mountains, learn about local culture, natural beauties and rural lifestyle of the common people in Szeklerland.
Day 1: Departure from Finland → Budapest at 09:30 - 10:50 am
The ADVENTURE starts: in the noon hours we take the connection flight from Budapest Airport to Transylvania (12:20 - 14:20) as a Group. When evening falls, we accommodate at Honor Villa, in the beautiful moutain region of Harghita Mountains.
Day 2: Riding trip - Deság coutry castle ruins (distance on horseback 30 km)
Our first day riding tour is a comfortable one, on a fairly short distance. It helps us to make the equine contact with our horse and ease ourselves into vacation. The tour goes up to an old castle ruins.
Optional evening program 1: deer rutting (listening to deer belling) in the Ivo Wildlife Park
Day 3: Riding trip to Csorgó Waterfall Varság (distance on horseback 50 km)
This trail takes us through large meadows and deep untouched forests showing off the true wilderness of the region. Right before arriving to our final destionation, the Varsag Waterfall, we pass throught the Garden of Eden.
Day 4: Free day - Relaxing day in Ivo
Optional program 2: Harghita Madaras Tour (4-5 h)
Optional program 3: 18:00 o’clock Carphatian brown bear watch
Just 10 km from the inn lies the sacred mountain of the Szeklers. From the 1800 m high peek the view is goregous over the Transylvaninan Basin. In the evening hours we can take you to Carphatian brown bear watch, where you can meet brown bears in their natural inhabitat.
Day 5: Riding trip to Sicasau
During the tour we will stop for a hearty dinner at lake Zeteváralja to enjoy the beautiful view and a delicious home cooked lunch (moutain trout). We spend the evening hours outside, around the the glow of raging bonefire at Honor Villa.
Day 6: Riding tour to Tizenhétfalusi (36 km)
In the evening hours we depart from Ivo to Szeklerland Salt Region, Sovata. Accomodation in the Szeifert Hotel.
Day 7: Spending relaxing time at Praid
Did you know that the absolute age attributed to the salt deposits from Transylvania is 13.6-13.4 million years? The salt deposit of the region has more than 2500 m depth and could cover the Earth salt need for more than 200 years. Today we make a visit in the stomach of the earth (Praid salt mine) and spend some relaxing hours in the Praid Wellness Center with salty water, sauna, jacuzzi and hammam (wet sauna).
Day 8: Departure to Targu Mures Airport
After breakfast we depart to the airport. Flight time Tg Mures - Budapest: 14:50 - 14:50.
Connection flight from Budapest to Helsinki Finnair 19:00-22:20
Difficulty level: beginner - advance rider
We reserve the right to alter routes, itinaries and timetables, without prior notice, should the necessity arise. We reserve the right to cancel the tour or exclude individual riders if we deem it in the person’s or group’s best interest. No liability is accepted for loss or expenses due to delays or changes of arrival or departures of flights or other services, injury, sickness, accident, strikes, damage, negligence, weather, wars or other causes outside of our control.
Safety rules
- People under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating drugs are not permitted on the riding tour
- Please note that the weight limit to ride for inexperienced riders is 100 kg
- All clients must participate in the riding tour by their own free will and they are obliged to inform the tour guide of any condition that might affect their ability to participate in the tour
- Pregnant women are riding at their own risk. In case of accident, we do not assume liability for harm caused to the mother or the unborn child.
